Aca Puppy Registration

By admin on July 19th, 2010

i am looking at a puppy and wanted to find out about its history?

the person that has it has the parents ACA registration numbers and names but not the actual DAM or Sire. does anyone know how i can get this info? i have llked at the aca site and it is no help
sorry this is from a pet store who doesnt have the parents. He is a cocker spaniel. they have the orginal papers but had sold him previously and then for whatever reason got him back. He isnt acutally a "puppy" he is nearly 2 years old.

I agree with the previous answerer. If the people you are looking to buy from don't have the information, go no further. A reputable breeder ALWAYS, ALWAYS has all the records on each dog and its lineage up to date, or knows where to find the information. It doesn't mean that the dog wouldn't be a good pet, but it raises lots of red flags about why this person is breeding dogs. If the person doesn't have all the records, chances are he/she isn't doing all the health checks and tests on the parent dogs and can't vouch for a good medical history on the puppy. A good breeder will be there for you after you buy the puppy. Someone selling the puppy for a profit won't necessarily do the same, and you won't have the reassurance of knowing where the puppy came from. I would advise against doing business with sketchy breeders!

To answer your question more directly, I'm not sure you can get this information other than the person who owns the parent dogs.
