The growing puppy should be weighed once a week for the first six months of his life. The growth rate of the weekly, starting from weaning to six months, should be very consistent, which is a straight line when plotted on a graph. The amount of dog food consumed by a fast growing puppy should be increased to almost the same growth rate of the puppy. The only way to ensure that this increase in the consumption of dog food happens to the rate of correct is to feed a puppy from a self-feeder. Whenever a puppy eats everything that is plugged in, add a little 'more, so you are always offering the puppy just a little' more than who will eat.
Puppies obtained after weaning should already have established a feeding program by the previous owner. You should make every effort to find out everything you can about the type of feeding program from the old owner. The old owner must provide information that includes the type of dog food that the puppy eating as well as feeding times. In addition, the previous owner must say the amount of food given to dogs, so that you can duplicate for at least a couple of days until the puppy has become used to his new environment.
Do not be afraid to change the old routine, though. This change is one of those that are considered acceptable when it comes to feeding the dog. Do not be misled into feeding your new puppy exactly the same way his previous owner was feeding him, because he feels that the breeder is a power supply experienced dog. Just because that person is a breeder does not necessary make him an expert on dog nutrition. In many cases, farmers are more innocent in their ignorance, he felt they were doing one of their puppies and its new owner a favor by passing along their disinformation.
If you feel that there is a need to change the diet of your new puppy to improve nutrition of the dog or a method of feeding, feel free to do so. Once your puppy is familiar to her new home and the people that go with it, you can start introducing him a new dog food and nutrition routine. Just remember to do it slowly, one step at a time.
